Salzburg: Lets Explore the Sound of Music Movie Locations

What comes to mind whenever you hear about Salzburg? Does the famous movie “Sound of Music” rings a bell? Million of people fell inlove instantly with the picturesque sceneries of the place and not to mention the movie song “Do-Re-Me”. But did you know that only a small percentage of the local is familiar about the movie. It’s funny how this movie put Salzburg on the map of travellers list. The movie received the Golden Globe in 1966 and has also won five Oscars. Are you impress and intrigue what Salzburg has to offer. Come along and I will take you to the land of Sound of Music through the film locations around Salzburg.


Leopoldskron Palace

The palace used in the film for the Trapp Villa. The lake view and the park is perfect place for a stroll or for cyclist.

Mirrabell: Palace and Gardens
The scene where they shot Maria and the kids singing “Do-Re-Me”. Now a days the palace is used for shows and the garden is a good place to hang around with friends or just a book at hand to passes time.

St. Peter’s Cemetery
Some say it’s the location of dramatic flight scenes were filmed. But some argue the location was in U.S.A indoors. So there’s a bit controversy.

Hellbrunn Palace and Park
Head to Hellbrunn Palace where they rebuilt the gazebo, especially done for the movie fans.

Nonnberg Convent/ Abbey
The location of the Captain and Maria got married in real life. And it’s where Maria was a novice. Visitors are only allowed to the church and during church services.

Residenz Square and fountain

It is where Maria singing “I have confidence in me” while on the bus on her way to the Trapp Villa.

There are also other locations just outside Salzburg City but due to constraint of time is havent had a chance to visit it. Salzburg is a gogeous city with a beautiful backdrop of the movie.   1. LOVE The sound of music…I’d be all over these places..although I’d have to watch the film before visiting and after…just so I could say “I’ve been there!”
